Arnold Schwarzenegger's love child

It is so sad that Arnold Schwarzenegger had cheated on his wife. His life is now being torn down slowly. First it was the clemency he had given to a convicted killer, and now his secret love child has been revealed. It is sad, especially for the child because he is now in the "unwanted" spotlight of being known as the love child of Arnold Schwarzenegger. But this should 'teach' others that you should not cheat on your spouse, because you never know what may happen!

Money Saving Ideas for Saving Your Home Energy by: Simon Hamilton

Many factors to save are facing us on a daily basis. Save money, save our planet, save the environment, save energy to name but a few.

But how many of us really take notice of these cries for saving. Many of us try to save money from our salaries, but with the low interest rates, how helpful is this?

In today’s slow economical world, there is one sure fire way you can save money on your household heating bills, along with helping the environment. C’mon, we all have to do out bit don’t we?

I work in the UK as an Energy Assessor covering Hampshire. During the past 3 years, I have seen firsthand how a great deal of money can be saved by making a few simple and cost affective changes to your home and in the way that you live on a day to day basis.

The first thing we all need to do is to increase the loft insulation (if you have one) to at least 270mm. This is really cheap to do, is very quick to facilitate and will stop your precious heat from escaping through the roof. If you feel inclined to, you can also insulate between the rafters for added protection. Just remember to leave gaps near the soffits to allow for air circulation as you could cause condensation if you don’t.

Next, if you have cavity walls, look at having these filled professionally to stop any heat being lost through them. If you have solid walls, you could look at having internal or external insulation applied, subject to any listing consents. From 1983 onwards, the building regulations stated that all properties built thereafter should have cavity wall insulation. From experience, this isn’t always the case and some builders have neglected this! Double check beforehand.

If you have an open fireplace which isn’t often used, consider using a chimney balloon. These are very cheap to buy, come in various sizes and can be inserted into the chimney to stop and down draughts or losing heat up through the fire place.

Another worthwhile exercise is to change all of your lights / light bulbs to low energy bulbs. The laws have recently changed and you can now only buy low energy bulbs. However, all too many homes are still clinging on to their old bulbs because they are brighter. They’re not! Today’s low energy bulbs are very bright and as time goes on they will get better and better. Much money can be saved using these bulbs not only through the electricity used, but they also last 10 times longer than our ‘old’ ones.

If you have a hot water cylinder with a jacket with your heating system, upgrade the jacket to at least 100mm to increase the insulation. Turn down the thermostat a little to save some energy. If you haven’t got a thermostat on your cylinder - then get one!

Whilst on the subject of heating. Ensure all of your radiators have Thermostatic Radiator Valves and turn them down or off if the room is unused. Ensure you have a room thermostat and again keep this low and finally, if you have a non condensing boiler, consider upgrading it to a condensing boiler.

In order to keep this article short, there are so many other ways to save money around the home. I will leave you with the thought of switching off electrical appliance at the mains when not in use. Items on standby, including the phone charger can use quite a bit of power.

Now, stop wasting money and protect our planet for the next generation.

Change The Way You Drive and Save Money - by Phil Cahill

If every time you fill up your car, you find yourself spending more and more, you should consider changing your driving habits. Just a few simple steps can result in real savings to your fuel bill. There are also the obvious environmental benefits too. Here’s 10 steps for reducing your fuel bill.

Lighten The Load - It’s amazing how quickly our cars can become cluttered. Childrens toys, music, clothes, magazines often find their way into your car, and sometimes never leave it. Be ruthless and carry only what’s essential for your journey. You’ll save fuel and your car will be tidier too.

Keep Those Tires Pumped Up - Under inflated tires can have a serious impact on fuel efficiency. It’s good practice to check that your tires are inflated to their recommended pressures once a week.

Think Aerodynamics - Why are formula one cars so fast? What makes airplanes speed through the air? Powerful engines help, but aerodynamics is also crucial. Think about your cars aerodynamics. Roof racks, roof boxes and cycle carriers create drag, which doesn’t aid fuel economy at all. Unless they’re needed, remove them.

Plan Your Journey - Getting lost isn’t good for your pocket, or your blood pressure. Avoid taking a wrong turn by adding unnecessary miles to your journey, by planning ahead. Have directions close at hand so they can referred to. If you’ve ever been sent up a dirt track by your GPS, you’ll know nothing beats having a good old fashioned map.

High Is Good - The general rule of thumb, is that where conditions allow, you should use the highest gear possible. Changing gear early and keeping revs to down helps minimize fuel use.

Become A Chauffeur - It’s all about driving smoothly and calmly. Avoid unnecessary stopping and starting, which uses more fuel, by leaving a large gap between you and the car ahead. Gradually slowing down and speeding up is far more fuel efficient, as keeping your car moving uses for less fuel than stopping and starting.

Watch Your Braking - Slamming your brakes on at the last moment is terrible for fuel consumption. Anticipate the traffic conditions to use your brakes as little as possible. Try to roll up to junctions and traffic lights – simply lift your foot off the accelerator and anticipate where your will stop.

Switch Off If You’re Not Moving - Stuck in a long line? If your engines switched on, but you’re not moving, you’re using fuel to go nowhere at all. Switch the engine off until the traffic moves again.

Don’t Always Buy The Cheapest Fuel - Researching fuel price’s in your area is a great way to save money. However, if the cheapest fuel is mile away, think twice before setting off on your journey. If it costs more in fuel to travel there, than you’ll save at the pumps, the economics don’t add up.

Also, it’s very tempting to fill that tank up. However a full tank will add more weight, which in turn uses much more fuel. It’s best to only buy what you need.

Switch Off The A/C - Heating windscreens, headlights, air conditioning – they all use power from the engine. So the moment they’re not needed, turn them off and save fuel.

Along with the steps above, keeping your car well maintained will also aid fuel consumption. Regular car servicing is one way to keep your car in a good condition.

Clipping coupons...is it worth it?

To some people clipping coupons may seem like a waste of time. To some extent, yes it seems like it is because the items you want never seem to have a coupon, and if there is a coupon you do want, it's only worth .25 cents.  Well, as long as you search the ads and find the items you are looking for and they are on sale, why not combine them with a coupon and save even more.  Heck, even if you don't use the coupon, you may want to give it to someone else who may need it...just attach it to the item in the store and make someone's day.  I for one clip coupons, and I try to use as many as I can, but if I am not able to use it, I try to leave it for someone else to use.  It's always nice to see the total of my grocery bill get lower when I use my rewards card and coupons, it almost feels like winning at the slot machines.  At least that is how I feel!! LOL.

Here a Penny There a Penny: Consistency makes cents. by Stuart Wilde

I believe that it’s important to accept all the money that comes your way. That means that you can’t see a penny on the sidewalk and walk past it. You’ll have to be consistent in your affirmation, and pick up each and every penny you find—even the horrible ones that are stuck to the pavement with chewing gum. The reason for this is that the collective unconscious, or Universal Law, as I like to call it, isn’t aware of value. If you affirm, “I am abundant; money comes to me,” and then see a penny in the street and can’t be bothered to pick it up, the message you put out by your action is not in sync with your affirmation; thus, you disempower your abundance consciousness.
Now, sometimes picking up a penny, especially when you’re with other people, can be embarrassing, for they don’t do things like that. They’re much too important to accept something for nothing. But the fact that it’s embarrassing is excellent training, for you have to go past that idea and act for yourself, not in accordance with what others might think.
Some years ago in London, I was entertaining a group of very important business folk from the U.S. I’d decided to take them to the ballet at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. I thought that this would be a nice, swanky way of showing them the top of the line. Now in those days, I’d been banned from driving for having too much blood in my alcohol stream, so I’d bought a Rolls and hired a chauffeur to get around the transport problem.
I had arranged for the driver, Slick Vic, I called him, to wait at the curb directly outside the Opera House so that at the end of the performance I could whisk my guests off to a late-night dinner.
Well, as we came out of the Opera House, I began to cross the sidewalk to the car. There to my left was a penny. It had been raining that evening, so the penny shone, reflecting the streetlights and the shadows of those lights. I hesitated, wondering what everyone would think as I groped around at their feet. Then I decided that an affirmation is an affirmation, so I went for the penny.
What should have been a graceful scoop turned into a fiasco. I hit the penny with my knuckles, and it began a long, loping run across the sidewalk, snaking gracefully in and around many an expensive shoe. At that point, I should have left well enough alone. But determined as I was, I refused to give up. I lunged at the itinerant coin and missed, winding up on all fours.
That night I’d chosen to wear a white satin suit, God knows why. But by the time I finally had the penny in hand, I had acquired most of the muddy water on that particular sidewalk. Meanwhile, Slick Vic had ushered my guests into the car, and they relaxed to watch my pantomime with restrained astonishment.
I was really embarrassed. And once in the car, I felt I had to offer an explanation. So I told my American friends that the penny routine was an ancient British custom that brought untold amounts of good fortune. They were fascinated to learn the ins and outs of the British culture, and one of them even began taking a few notes.
All was well until one of the blokes started to pin me down as to exactly how the “penny in the gutter” routine entered British folklore. At that point, I went completely over the top. I told them that it was a custom handed down from Elizabethan times. To make it real, I created a whole fantastic scenario with Elizabeth, Lord Dudley and even Walter Raleigh out of politeness, thinking that perhaps my guests were none too familiar with Dudley’s exploits. It wasn’t long before I had all three crawling across the floor of Hampton Court in chase of the Royal Penny.
Everyone was duly impressed with my knowledge of the more obscure parts of English history, as was I. I somehow felt that I had created a historic moment returning the “penny in the gutter” to its rightful place among the glories of the English-speaking people.
Notes taken, events chronicled, the conversation drifted to silence. As the Rolls glided silently through the night, taking us to our rendezvous with fettuccine, linguine, and Chianti Classico, I thought about the events of the evening. I must say that secretly, I felt proud of myself, damn proud. From time to time, I surreptitiously opened my hand to glimpse the great but muddy prize, while I mused that there’s no limit to abundance when you’re committed to going for it.
